Tranquil Baths is intended for the public to escape the busy and loud city. By retreating into the silent and dense depths of the baths, visitors can take a break and reflect in both introvert and extrovert pools and indulge in the like of private baths and heat treatment zones. Access to the baths is intended to be by public transport, as Flinders Street Station is in close proximity, as well as a dedicated ferry stop on the Yarra River.
This design is influenced by Tadao Ando's style of Architecture. Combing light and dense concrete to create a feeling or transcendence. This is achieved in the Bath House by providing a dense concrete structure with the incorporated play of natural lighting. Furthermore, the design focuses on Space, Form and Order.
The form of the structure focuses on Tectonics and is a representation of a Monotone sound wave, as the Bath House represents a silence of such. The Hyperbolic Paraboloid skeleton of the structure not only signifies silence but shows the dynamics of sound with in the baths, indicated by the rise and fall of the roof structure.
Reflective zones consist of a moon viewing pool, introvert pool, clothing optional zone, private rooms /baths and internal open court yards separated from public access. The Dynamic zones include a extrovert pool, lap pool, cold pool and solar areas.
